Corporate Social Responsibility at Sunny Processors Ltd

Growing Value Beyond the Factory Gate

Growing Value Beyond the Factory Gate

Sunny Processors Ltd was built on a simple idea: a processing business only thrives when the community around it thrives too. Since 2008, our work has been tied to the farmers who grow our fruit, the people who run our lines, and the county that hosts us. We see responsibility not as a separate programme we run on the side, but as the way we do business every day.

Our approach to corporate social responsibility rests on the relationships that make our supply chain possible. We invest in the farmers who supply us, the workforce that processes our products, and the wider community that has supported our growth for over fifteen years. The result is a business that creates lasting value where it operates, not just for our customers abroad but for the people of Murang’a County at home.

Supporting Local Farmers

The farmers who grow our mangoes and avocados are the foundation of everything we make. We support over 7,000 small-scale farmers throughout Kenya, working directly with smallholder growers to buy their fruit at fair, consistent prices and give them a reliable market season after season. For many farming families, that consistency is the difference between uncertainty and a dependable income they can plan around.

Our commitment goes beyond the point of purchase. By guaranteeing demand for their harvest, we help farmers invest with confidence in their land and their families. We buy through good seasons and challenging ones, because the relationships we have built depend on showing up year after year. Supporting our farmers sustainably and consistently is the single most important thing we do, and it sits at the centre of how we think about our role in the community.

Creating Jobs and Livelihoods

Sunny Processors Ltd employs around 412 workers, and every one of those roles supports a household. From our intake and processing teams to quality control, logistics and management, we provide stable, skilled employment that strengthens families and the wider community.

We are committed to being a good employer. That means fair treatment, safe working conditions, and opportunities for our people to grow their skills and advance over time. Many of our workers come from the communities right around our facility, which keeps the benefits of our business close to where they are needed most.

Sustainable Processing and Environmental Care

Responsible processing is part of how we protect the land our business depends on. We work to use water efficiently, manage our by-products responsibly, and reduce waste across our operations. Fruit peels and seeds are diverted from landfill where possible and put to productive use, turning what would be waste into value.

We see environmental stewardship and commercial success as partners rather than trade-offs. Healthy soils, clean water and a stable climate are the conditions our farmers and our factory both rely on, so protecting them is simply good business.

Investing in Farmer Knowledge and Good Practice

Buying fruit is only part of the partnership. We share guidance on good agricultural practices with the growers we work with, helping them improve quality, increase yields and farm more sustainably. Better practice on the farm means better fruit for our customers and better returns for the farmers, so everyone gains when knowledge is shared.

By strengthening the capacity of the growers in our network, we help build a more resilient local agricultural sector that can compete in demanding international markets for years to come.

Strengthening the Wider Community

Our responsibility extends to the community that surrounds our operations. We support local initiatives and look for practical ways to give back to the area that has supported our growth. As a significant local employer and buyer, we understand the role we play in the everyday life of the region, and we take that role seriously.

We believe a successful company should leave its community stronger. That belief guides our partnerships, our hiring, and the long-term commitments we make to the people and places at the heart of our business.
